Local veterans of World War II, and Polish veterans seeking a new life, turn to the English countryside for work and a home. But, with physical and emotional wounds unhealed, and with shortages of food, fuel and housing, life is difficult for those returning and for those waiting for the soldiers. Some find their home, while others must seek it elsewhere.
